3 Peaks Challenge

In a moment of madness 9 Under 17 parents (John Vallely, John Shaw, Janet Shaw, Nigel Ross, Karen Lowton, Andy Gould, Graham Ferris, Steve Summersby and Dave Whiting), most of whom are more usually seen propping up the Combe bar, decided to take part in this summer's Three Peaks challenge.

Having done a little training we make our attempt this weekend and could use your support.

Fraser Thomson
After many years of coaching the Westcombe Park 1st XV Fraser Thomson has decided to call it a day. As most of you are aware Fraser has given much to ‘Combe through the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s as player, captain and coach.

We can’t thank Fraser enough for his dedication and continual passion for ‘Combe rugby from which we have all benefitted over the years.

We wish Fraser, Marion and the children a restful summer, the first for many years, and I am sure we’ll see him in September.

I feel sure that we will be organising an event to celebrate Frasers’ tenure at Westcombe Park.

On behalf of Westcombe Park Rugby Club - Thank you Fraser.

Westcombe Park RFC Academy 2009/10
Westcombe Park RFC are committed to further developing our Academy and building on the success of this season where a place in the Semi-Final of the National Colts Plate competition was acheived, only losing out to the eventual winners. This was a magnificent acheivement considering this is only the 2nd year of running an "Academy" at 'Combe which utilised the best players from the under 17's to under 19's age groups. Our aim is to develop a side capable of going on to compete on a level footing with the best Academy sides in the Country and to develop and progress each and every season.
We already have a high number of extremely talented players committed for next season and it is our desire to significantly strenghthen the squad, these players will be coached and developed not only for the immediate season but allowing them to enter the senior game at a high level, some of which we would hope to go on to play 1st XV rugby in the National Leagues.

During Season 2009/10 'Combe are committed to further improving the coaching, training, structure and ultimately the results on the pitch with development of the skill and ability of young players and build on this years success and momentum. We have a dedicated head coach who will appoint an experienced coaching team to assist him combined with a management team taking care of admin and player welfare issues.

We will once again enter the National knockout competition as well as arrange friendly fixtures with some of the best Academy sides in the UK, season 2009/10 will hopefully be finished off with an overseas tour.

We are actively seeking players who will qualify for under 19's Rugby next season who wish to still play at this level and benefit from additional coaching and training and the rewards that may bring.

We will be holding weekly training sessions throughout the summer and hold trials at the end of August/beginning of September 2009.

Full details and timings will be posted on the Westcombe Park website specifically under the Senior Rugby/Academy/Colts-Under 18's Homepage.

The Phoenix Rises From the Ashes—and how!
CINDERFORD R.F.C. 72 v WESTCOMBE PARK NIL
Westcombe Park's last game in National League Two was a bit of a shock to the system and was symptomatic of much of the season. Not so much on the field as off it. The R.F.U. has ensured that in a sport where there is only a limited amount of money available it will be focused at the top.
Cinderford is a club going places and has the set-up and the connections to make it happen. There are five or six teams left at this level with similar ambitions. On Saturday we were treated (if that is the right word for anyone from Combe) to one of the slickest, fastest, leanest and meanest displays of rugby seen this season.
